From source batch to the vial in your hand

A certificate is only evidence if you can connect it to the material you were sent. The lot printed on your vial resolves back through the filling record to a source batch, and that source batch is what the certificate describes. Making that connection yourself takes about thirty seconds and is the single most useful check available to a buyer.

All 64published certificates are batch-level documents. None of them is a generic product certificate, which is why a compound's purity figure changes when its batch does.

The chain

Source batch

A single quantity of material produced in one synthesis and purification run. Everything downstream refers back to this identifier. It is what the certificate is about.

Analysis

A sample from that batch is analysed by an independent laboratory. The results describe the batch, not the product line, which is why two batches of the same compound carry different numbers.

Release

The results are checked against the specification for that compound. The batch is released only if every determination sits inside its limit. A failure stops here.

Fill and label

Released material is filled into vials and each vial is labelled with a lot identifier that resolves back to the source batch through the filling record.

The vial you receive

The lot printed on your vial is the end of the chain. Reading it back up the chain is what turns a published certificate into evidence about the specific vial in your hand.

Trace your own vial

  1. Read the lot identifier printed on the vial label.
  2. Open the certificate for that compound on the lab results page.
  3. Compare the batch identifier on the certificate against your lot. They should resolve to the same source batch.
  4. Check the analysis date. A certificate far older than the material in circulation is describing a batch that has since been replaced.
  5. If anything does not line up, ask before using the material. A vendor who cannot answer that question quickly has told you something.

What is retained

Certificates are published per batch at permanent addresses. When a batch is replaced, its certificate is superseded rather than removed, so the analytical history of a compound remains readable after the batch has rotated out of circulation.

Order records tie a lot to the orders it went into. That link is what makes a withdrawal actionable: if a released batch is later found to be out of specification, the people who received it can be contacted directly rather than relying on them to read a notice.

What traceability cannot prove

  • Traceability proves which batch your vial came from. It does not prove how the vial was handled after it left, and heat or repeated freeze-thaw cycles degrade material in ways no record can capture.
  • It describes the source batch that was analysed. A sample is not the whole batch, and analysis of a sample is evidence about the batch rather than a measurement of every vial in it.
  • It is a record system, not an accreditation. Nobody external audits the chain, and we do not claim they do.

Common questions

How do I check that the COA applies to my vial?

Read the lot identifier printed on the vial, open the certificate published for that compound on the lab results page, and compare it against the batch identifier on the certificate. If they resolve to the same source batch, the certificate describes your material. If they do not, the certificate is describing something else, and that is worth asking about before anything else.

Why is the certificate published online instead of included in the box?

Because a document in the box can only be checked against itself. Shipments arrive in plain, unbranded packaging with no paperwork inside, and the certificate lives at a permanent public address instead. That way the same document is visible to you, to somebody deciding whether to order, and to anybody comparing our claims against the material, and none of them has to take a printed slip on trust.

What happens to the certificate when a batch is replaced?

The new source batch gets its own identifier and its own analysis, and the previous certificate is superseded rather than deleted. Keeping the superseded record is deliberate: it means the analytical history of a compound stays readable, and it means a purity figure published in the past cannot quietly disappear if a later batch performs differently.

Can you trace a vial back to the exact person who bought it?
