About This Product
IGF-DES (IGF-1 DES 1,3) Research Guide
The Truncated IGF-1 Variant
IGF-DES, formally known as IGF-1 DES(1,3), is a truncated variant of insulin-like growth factor 1 in which the first three amino acids of the N-terminus are removed. This small structural change has significant pharmacological consequences: the deletion reduces binding affinity to IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) in plasma, which otherwise rapidly scavenge native IGF-1 and limit its bioavailability at the receptor.
The result is a compound that reaches the IGF-1 receptor at meaningfully higher effective concentrations than native IGF-1 at matched doses, making it a sharper research tool for IGF-1 receptor pharmacology questions.
Mechanism
- IGF-1 receptor activation: same receptor as full-length IGF-1 and IGF-1 LR3, with downstream mTOR and PI3K/Akt pathway activation
- Reduced IGFBP binding: the DES(1,3) modification disrupts the binding site that IGFBPs use to scavenge native IGF-1
- Shorter half-life than IGF-1 LR3: the Long R3 modification in IGF-1 LR3 extends half-life more than the DES modification, which is why the two analogs occupy different research niches
- Localized activity profile: the shorter half-life makes IGF-DES closer to a pulse tool than a sustained-exposure tool
Research Applications
- IGF-1 receptor pharmacology research where IGFBP scavenging is the study variable
- Comparative research against [IGF-1 LR3](/product/igf-1lr3) to isolate short versus long half-life effects on the same receptor
- Muscle satellite cell research in protocols requiring pulsatile rather than sustained IGF signaling
- Protein synthesis and mTOR pathway research
Quality Standards
- Purity: 99 percent plus verified by independent third-party HPLC (Janoshik Analytical)
- Form: lyophilized powder in sterile vials
- Storage: refrigerator for near-term use, minus 20 degrees Celsius long-term
- Documentation: batch-matched Certificate of Analysis published at /lab-results

Research Context for IGF-DES
Growth Hormone Research Context
Growth hormone research compounds are studied for their effects on protein synthesis, lipid metabolism, connective tissue remodeling, and the downstream IGF-1 axis. Research protocols here are sensitive to dose, timing, and the specific form of the compound, which is why accurate sourcing and a clear analytical profile matter more than in most other categories.
IGF-DES ships as a lyophilized research reagent through the LyzeLabs™ catalog in the Growth Hormone category, available as a single research-grade format. Every batch is independently verified by Janoshik Analytical, with the full HPLC chromatogram and mass spectrometry confirmation published on the LyzeLabs lab results page and matched to the lot number printed on your vial.
